The phrase 'X game is dead' has become one of my favorite uninformed takes—or dare I say, a meme?
It's often used by gamers when they no longer vibe with a particular game, such as Fortnite, Counter-Strike, DotA, League of Legends, or Rainbow Six.
Interestingly, Fortnite, often dubbed one of the 'deadest' games, recently topped the earnings chart across several key markets for March, according to Newzoo. While Newzoo's data should be approached with a grain of salt, it still suggests that Fortnite is in quite healthy shape, especially since it outperformed the following titles:
I'm not deeply familiar with Fortnite's lore, and I looked into whether anything notable happened during that month. Besides the release of Chapter 5: Season 1, Phase 2, and the addition of the Solid Snake skin, there didn't seem to be anything extraordinary.
Regardless, it's best to ignore most of the naysayers. Many games are continuing to thrive, even in a challenging market.
