Hello! I'm Rachid, but you might know me as Ahri online. I hail from Morocco, having spent my formative years there. Since 2005, I've called France home, though I did spend three years in Germany and a brief month in Shanghai.
From a young age, my interests have spanned video games, history, mythology, literature, anime/manga, and sports. I owe this to my parents' open-minded upbringing and my elder brother, with whom I've shared many of these hobbies.
Fast-forward to the present:
I've dedicated 11 years to the gaming industry.
My journey has taken me to Bandai Namco as a PR Manager, Bigpoing/Yoozoo and Huawei (Honor) as a Communications Manager, and Ubisoft where I served as head of esports projects and later as head of EMEA esports.
Currently, I'm head of marketing at The Sandbox.
I've delved into the crypto world since 2017 and have been a part of various communities and DAOs.
Highlights of my journey include:
Engaging with the minds behind Pac-Man, TEKKEN, Soul Calibur, Dark Souls, and The Witcher—yes, I've had dinner with them!
Meeting Junko Takeuchi, the voice behind Naruto Uzumaki.
Contributing to an array of renowned IPs (see above), as well as Honor's flagship phones and several crypto/web3 products.
Attending several E3 conferences, Tokyo Games Show, Jump Festa, and so on.
Meeting countless friends through all my jobs.
Organizing events, where you might spot or hear me in various videos, both in French and English:
Why did I decide to create a newsletter?
Sharing this isn't about flaunting influence or importance. Instead, it's about sharing what excites me, piques my curiosity, or makes me reflective. My subjects often revolve around gaming, esports, philosophy, tech, and crypto/web3. Regular sharing helps me stay disciplined in my readings and explorations.
Recently, Substack informed me that I've hit the 100-subscriber milestone. While I'm not usually swayed by numbers or social media metrics, knowing that over 100 individuals appreciate my content feels heartwarming. A friend once advised, "Just start your newsletter, focus on consistency over numbers." And so, here we are.
I genuinely hope you enjoy what you find here and decide to stick around for more of this "old man's" musings and discoveries.
