An alarming situation has unfolded in the VCS: 32 persons have been suspended from all esports activities due to potential involvement in match-fixing.
The esports community has long been plagued by match-fixing scandals ((see how a StarCraft legend got banned for life. Bo, one of the most mechanically gifted junglers of these past few years, formerly of FPX and Vitality, and currently with Karmine Corp, received a 4-month ban a few years back for related issues.
This issue isn't surprising, considering the youth and impressionability of many players, coupled with the absence of a legal framework and misaligned financial incentives, among other factors.
It is important that Riot brings out the banhammer decisively but also collaborates closely with law enforcement to address the root causes of these problems.
